Political Corruption By Government Officials For...
Throughout history, several sovereign nations across the world have been subject to political corruption by government officials for illegitimate personal gain. Corruption used to be a low profile line item. However, today it has reached heights at which the government must get involved to try and cover it up to ensure its secrecy and avoid exploitation. This instance is referred to as Crony Capitalism, which is a theory that has evolved from corruption over a period of time. This idea involves more intervention by the government who achieves its purpose by providing incentives and subsidies to their known business partners in specific operating fields. They favour this particular set of business owners who they keep close ties with overâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦They drift away from the rule of law which they themselves have established to maintain social control over their country. The government chooses to monopolize over businesses in pursuit of getting a larger share of mon ey. However, most of the time these turn into sunken costs, which they then try to cover by raising tax rates. Countries that were regarded as miracles are nothing more than havens now, for crony capitalists to get rich the easy way (Kang, 3). An example of this is in Canada, where a big incentive in the form of tax credit is given to the Film Producing Industry. The government has been providing tax payersââ¬â¢ money and direct subsidies in an effort to induce film production in their province. Currently, film and television tax credits cover up to 35% of labour costs all over Canada, except for Quebec where it covers up to 45%. This does not include the additional tax credits that are provided to cover up the total production costs. In Alberta, the film and television industry demanded $18 million for a project worth $32 million of building a film studio in Calgary. The government has provided them with $10 million from property tax which means that the remaining $22 million w ill be obtained from taxpayers at their cost. The film industry in Alberta claims that this is beneficial since every buck that taxpayers contribute towards subsidies will result in a 10 fold return to the economy. This demonstrates how Crony

Cumulative Knowledge in Strategic Management â⬠MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Cumulative Knowledge in Strategic Management. Answer: Introduction P G is the world renowned consumer goods company which was founded in the year 1837. The organization has more than 300 brands with a diverse product portfolio including beauty care products, Gillette products and household care products. P G established joint venture with PG (Guangzhou) Ltd. Headquartered in Guangzhou and entered Mainland China in the year 1988. The greater China business of P G includes Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The Unilever Limited is also a reputed consumer goods company which is headquartered in London, United Kingdom and Rotterdam, Netherlands. The organization has a diverse product line and product width which includes personal care products, beverages, food, products, cleaning agents and various other products in fast moving consumer goods section. Unilever entered China in the year 1986(unilever.com. 2017).The jointly owned enterprise of Unilever in China is Shanghai Unilever. The business operations of Unilever extend to Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwa n, Mongolia and mainland China. Both P G and Unilever are global fast moving consumer goods companies which have established lucrative market operations in China. The core competencies, capabilities and how these two companies have achieved competitive advantage in China have been analyzed in this report by reviewing the strategic actions undertaken by the two companies (pghongkong.com. 2017). Strategy, Structure and System- Unilever has focused on strategies like building robust supply chain, reducing cost by outsourcing operation, penetrating in emerging markets like China which has a huge population, adopting market penetration strategies by developing a diverse range of umbrella product portfolio with help of its strong R D division. An open communication model and supportive structure at workplace and leaders of the Company deliver faster decision (Priem and Carr 2012). The same is followed by Unilever. Skills and Staff- Unilever has a talented pool of scientists who work in R D division of the company. Apart from this, Unilever has product development experts, professionals like hairdressers and chefs, marketers and employees in supply chain department who work in China. Shared Value and Style-The Unilever brand has centered its business model not only to create profit for shareholders but also to create long term value for its stakeholders. Unilever focuses on accelerating growth in its business in China while enhancing the social impact and implementing sustainability factors by taking measures like reducing environmental footprints (com. 2017). Failure of Decision Chosen by Unilever Initially Unilever faced difficulty to establish its brand in the Chinese market. From 1980s to 1990s the Company entered into large number of joint ventures which failed in China. The organization spent almost $ 800 million in China and each of the 12 ventures had their own product line, sales staff and distribution system. Later the organization integrates all its business units under one holding in China. Apart from this, Unilever hired local employees in China, has set up R D division to develop products which will suit the needs and preferences of Chinese consumers, for instance, Unilever China focused on creating local brands like Hazeline and Lao Cai soy in China and local professionals of China managed global brands of the Company like Dove and Lux. Strategy, Structure and System- P G entered the Chinese market with focus on market research and advertising. The Company entered China with a Joint Venture with Hong Kong Company, Hutchison Whampoa. Another joint venture business was established with Guangzhou Soup Factory. Skills and Staff- P G has skilled staffs across all its divisions in China like RD, supply chain, marketing and human resource. The organization has a program called Connect and Develop which helps PG to stay connected with stakeholders like suppliers (Grant 2016). Shared Value and Style- An organization should focus on values like integrity, ownership and leadership, innovation and passion for winning and trust (Keupp, Palmi and Gassmann 2012). P G adopts the same approach. The organization shows respect for all its stakeholders, boosts the process of innovation and develops superior understanding of customers and their needs in China. The different departments of PG act like one unit in China and send only one invoice to retailers. However, Unilever send different invoices and sales people to retailers in China who compete with one another. Thus PG dominates shelf space of retailers more than Unilever in China. Failure of the decision chosen by PG Initially P G failed to gain market share and earn enough revenue in China because the Company developed less quality products for the Chinese market to reduce cost. For instance, P Gs disposable nappies Pampers were a flop in China in the year 1998. Initially the organization supplied nappies of poor quality to reduce cost with the apprehension that Chinese parents will buy them. However, later P G had to add extra softness to the nappy, increased the absorption capacity and moved manufacturing capacity for Pampers in China to reduce cost. Also, the Company made huge investment on advertising campaigns and associated nappies with longer sleep for babies. Thus the strategy, structure and system of P G focuses on customizing products for Chinese consumers and investing on open communication, heavy advertisement and promotion strategy to create awareness among Chinese consumers(pghongkong.com. 2017). The Porters 5 forces Model will help in the analysis of the five forces which will help to determine the competition within the industry. The five forces for P G and Unilever Ltd. which will be analyzed are Threat of New Entry, Bargaining Power of Suppliers, Bargaining Power of Buyers, Threat of Substitutes and Competitive Rivalry (Gamble and Thompson 2014). Bargaining Power of Supplier- The buying power of suppliers of Unilever is low as the organization adopts a policy of local buying and local manufacturing. Unilever has signed blanket agreement with its suppliers which supplies products to the Company for a certain period of time at a certain rate. Bargaining Power of Customers- The bargaining power of customers of Unilever is medium high because customers have low switching cost for fast moving consumer goods. Threat of new entrants- The brand image of Unilever acts as a strong barrier for new entrants to compete with the organization. Market Rivalry of Unilever- The major competitors of Unilever are Nestle, P G and Chinese local brands like Dali Group and Haday. Threat of Substitutes- The threat of substitutes for Unilever is quite high because of the fast moving consumer products which are easy to imitate (com. 2017). Porters 5 forces Analysis of P G Bargaining Power of Suppliers- Suppliers of P G in China need key customers like P G for generating profit. The suppliers of the organization in China have low bargaining power because P G is a reputed brand with a huge customer base. Bargaining Power of Consumers- The bargaining power of consumers of P G is medium high, for instance, P G has to rely on supermarkets of China and online giant Alibaba to sell its products in China. Alibaba will have more bargaining power. Moreover, the products of P G are in fast-moving consumer goods section where consumers have lower switching costs and thus PG has to price its products competitively. Threat of substitutes- For P G, threat of substitutes is quite high. The organization manufactures products in consumer goods section like shampoo, detergent, soap. These fast-moving consumer goods products can be easily substituted. Threat of new entrants- For P G, threat of new entrants for the Chinese market is low. This is because the organization has significant amount of market shares. Thus, a new entrant would require huge investment on marketing, promotion and R D to compete with PG. Market rivalry of P G- The rivals of P G in China are Unilever, Nestle, Chinese brands like Yili and Mengniu, Liby, Dali Group and Haday (com. 2017) iii) The Porters Generic Strategy Model of P G and Unilever Ltd are analyzed to contemplate the various ways by which these two companies gain competitive advantage (Wheelen and Hunger 2017).The different strategies of Porters Generic Strategy model are Cost Leadership, Differentiation and Focus. The Focus Strategy can be subdivided into two parts Cost Focus and Differentiation Focus (Hitt, Ireland and Hoskisson 2012). Unilever uses the Porters generic strategy of broad differentiation. The organization focuses on product development approaches by adding more features in the products based on specific market needs of consumers. For Unilever, the products are specially designed to suit customers needs (unilever.com. 2017). The generic strategy adopted by P G is also differentiation like Unilever. The organization highlights value and quality in consumer goods products in China. The organization invests on RD to build a diverse product portfolio with highly differentiated product ranges and PG adopts marketing strategies that create customer awareness about the uniqueness of each product line (pghongkong.com. 2017). Blue Ocean Strategy of Unilever and PG The Competitors in the marketplace create a red ocean for companies resulting in cutthroat competition. In order to sustain in the marketplace for a longer period of time, Unilever and PG have explored untapped market opportunities free from competitors thus adopting a Blue Ocean Strategy for them(Hill, Jones and Schilling 2014). The Blue Ocean strategy is adopted by both Unilever and PG as they try to gain competitive advantage by penetrating into untapped markets. Both the companies utilizes revenue generated from well established brands to venture into new markets and build an umbrella of diverse product categories, for instance, Unilever entered into water purifying business in China by acquiring Qinyuan Group and PG changed views of consumers of China who relied on cloth diapers by introducing Pampers disposable diapers in China which initially failed but was a huge success in future due to marketing campaigns like Golden Sleep in 2007 which associated disposable diapers with longer sleep in China and thus P G gained first mover advantage in diapers market in China(pghongkong.com. 2017). The Ansoff Matrix will help in the analysis of growth strategies of P G and Unilever Ltd. The four strategies of this grid are Market Penetration (existing products for existing markets), Product Development (new products for existing markets), market development (existing products for new market) and Diversification (new products and new markets)( Harrison and John 2013). Product Development- Unilever constantly focuses on new product development in China. The organization focuses on extending the product line and adding more product width within each line. Amora, Clear, Dove, Knorr, Lipton, Lux, Magnum, Rexona, Ponds, Domestos, Hellmans, OMO are some of the brands of Unilever in China (com. 2017). Market Penetration- Unilever adopts Market Penetration Strategy in China by selling existing products for existing market with competitive pricing, sales promotion and advertising. For instance, Unilever has Dove and Lux in the same product line of soap with different pricing strategy. Dove targets upper segment of market with a premium price whereas Lux is more reasonably priced which is a market penetration strategy of Unilver. Market Development- Unilever constantly develops new market for existing products. Apart from selling its products in Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mongolia and mainland China, Unilever also sells products in various countries like the United Kingdom, the United States, Netherlands, and India Unilever sells products. Diversification- R D divisions of Unilever help the company to diversify its product range. For instance, the organization has umbrella product portfolio ranging from personal care products, beverages, food, products, cleaning agents and the company sells these products to new markets (com. 2017). Product Development-The R D division of P G helps the company to extend its product line and add more products in the range of hair care, skin care, baby care, powder detergent. For instance, the company developed like Campbells soup and Pampers which initially failed in China but later gained popularity. Market Penetration- P G adds more product width within the same product line with products priced differently to target different markets segments and for penetrating in the market. For instance, P G has products Tide and Ariel in the same category of detergents for market penetration. Market Development- The different pricing policies for the umbrella product range of a company helps in market development (Bettis et al. 2016).P G adopts similar approach. Diversification- P G has diverse range of product portfolio like Olay, Safeguard, Pampers, Rejoice, Tide, and Gillette which are in different product categories like skincare, personal cleansing, baby care, powder detergent range. P G has entered new markets in different parts across the globe like America, Asia, Western Europe, and Africa apart from China (pghongkong.com. 2017). One of the noteworthy acquisition of Unilever in China was acquisition of Qinyuan Group Co. Ltd.- a water purifier company in the year 2014 which will compliment its Pureit wate water purification business. Unilever also purchased hair product business of TIGI and Sara Lees Personal Care Business. Alliances and acquisitions are thus important strategies for business (Rothaermel 2015). The most famous acquisition of P G was in the year 2005, when the organization acquired Gillette. The well known products of Gillette were Oral-B, Duracell, March 3 razor, Barun. This acquisition gave PG access to new markets in the male grooming segment. The global sales of the company rose to $76.5 billion in 2007 due to this acquisition (pghongkong.com. 2017). Conclusion It can be concluded that PG and Unilever are both fast moving consumer goods with many common strategies like both has adopted differentiation strategy of Porters Generic Strategy Model. Both the companies started operations in China in the second half on 1980s, Unilever began its operations in Sanghai and PG started operations in Guangzhou. However, in 1999, revenues of PG in China reached almost $1 billion while that of Unilever was around $300 million. This was because Unilever entered into 12 ventures in China which had equal number of Chinese entities. But PG focused on gaining trust of Chinese partners and has just one partner in Mainland China which was a unit of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation. China is a home of more than a billion people, but the Chinese people do not readily accept foreign brands. P G was more successful in gaining trust of local partners and products like Rejoice shampoo, Crest toothpaste of PG dominated the shelf-space of China mor e than Lux and Close-Up toothpaste of Unilever. Recommendations It is recommended that Unilever must try to integrate its business processes. The different joint ventures of Unilever should not have different product lines and staffs. The organization should try to gain trust of Chinese partner and should have a unified corporate culture and brand identity in China. The distribution system for the different product lines of the joint venture of Unilever in China should be centralized. For PG it is recommended, that the organization should focus on market research and improving the quality of its products. The Pampers diapers failed in the market because PG provided poor quality diapers for Chinese market to cut cost. The organization should not compromise on quality. Instead, P G can cut cost by shifting manufacturing divisions in China. Also, PG should focus on RD and innovation to develop new products customized for Chinese customers. The Canterbury Tales A Character Sketch Of Chaucers Knight Essays (51
The Canterbury Tales: A Character Sketch of Chaucer's Knight Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, written in approximately 1385, is a collection of twenty-four stories ostensibly told by various people who are going on a religious pilgrimage to Canterbury Cathedral from London, England. Prior to the actual tales, however, Chaucer offers the reader a glimpse of fourteenth century life by way of what he refers to as a General Prologue. In this prologue, Chaucer introduces all of the characters who are involved in this imaginary journey and who will tell the tales. Among the characters included in this introductory section is a knight. Chaucer initially refers to the knight as "a most distinguished man" (l. 43) and, indeed, his sketch of the knight is highly complimentary. The knight, Chaucer tells us, "possessed/Fine horses, but he was not gaily dressed" (ll. 69-70). Indeed, the knight is dressed in a common shirt which is stained "where his armor had left mark" (l. 72). That is, the knight is "just home from service" (l. 73) and is in such a hurry to go on his pilgrimage that he has not even paused before beginning it to change his clothes. The knight has had a very busy life as his fighting career has taken him to a great many places. He has seen military service in Egypt, Lithuania, Prussia, Russia, Spain, North Africa, and Asia Minor where he "was of [great] value in all eyes (l. 63). Even though he has had a very successful and busy career, he is extremely humble: Chaucer maintains that he is "modest as a maid" (l. 65). Moreover, he has never said a rude thing to anyone in his entire life (cf., ll. 66-7). Clearly, the knight possesses an outstanding character. Chaucer gives to the knight one of the more flattering descriptions in the General Prologue. The knight can do no wrong: he is an outstanding warrior who has fought for the true faith_according to Chaucer_on three continents. In the midst of all this contenton, however, the knight remains modest and polite. The knight is the embodiment of the chivalric code: he is devout and courteous off the battlefield and is bold and fearless on it. In twentieth century America, we would like to think that we have many people in our society who are like Chaucer's knight. During this nation's altercation with Iraq in 1991, the concept of the modest but effective soldier captured the imagination of the country. Indeed, the nation's journalists in many ways attempted to make General H. Norman Schwarzkof a latter day knight. The general was made to appear as a fearless leader who really was a regular guy under the uniform. It would be nice to think that a person such as the knight could exist in the twentieth century. The fact of the matter is that it is unlikely that people such as the knight existed even in the fourteenth century. As he does with all of his characters, Chaucer is producing a stereotype in creating the knight. As noted above, Chaucer, in describing the knight, is describing a chivalric ideal. The history of the Middle Ages demonstrates that this ideal rarely was manifested in actual conduct. Nevertheless, in his description of the knight, Chaucer shows the reader the possibility of the chivalric way of life.

The eNotes Blog Libraries and Kids The Only TrueMagic
Libraries and Kids The Only TrueMagic True Story:à I remember getting my library card more vividly than I recall getting my drivers license. à My best memories of childhood were going to the library with my mom and checking out armfuls of books, which she would read to me for hours on end.à At two, I am told, I would stand on tiptoe at the librarians desk and requestà favorites or authors (I didnt know why the lady laughed at me.à I guess most toddlers werent as particular.) I would rather go to the library than the movies, or the park, or anywhere else.à Still true. The libraries I recall were nothing fancy.à Maybe some bulletin boards heralding an upcoming holiday or new books perched half-open, standing on top of shelves. Of course in 197(cough, cough), there were not nearly as many ways for a child to be entertained.à The television had four channels (as God intended):à ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS.à Cartoons were from 7am to 10am, period. No LOL cats, no Youtube. I like to scare my son with th ese tidbits. Today, libraries are competing to keep your child reading and finding some interesting ways to do so, by engaging the imagination.à Here are a few of my favorite new spaces, and some words from others who continue to love libraries: Spainââ¬â¢s Playoffice, a child-centric design firm, created the ââ¬Å"reading net in an attempt to making reading more fun for kids. The reading net stretches across the length of a library room, and kids can play on it in between chapters. As a child, I felt that books were holy objects, to be caressed, rapturously sniffed, and devotedly provided for. I gave my life to them. I still do. I continue to do what I did as a child; dream of books, make books and collect books. Maurice Sendak Washington libraries are taking a new approach to teaching reading by having children read books aloud but instead of reading to other children they are reading to dogs. The theory is that children who are too scared or insecure to read out loud in front of their classmates dont experience those same issues when the children reading aloud have a canine audience ââ¬Å"When I was young, we couldnt afford much. But, my library card was my key to the world.â⬠à à John Goodman, Actor Mobile libraries are not a new concept but this converted shipping container that can transform to double its size certainly is. Conceived to help support local Dutch schools that lack the funds or space for a library, the BiebBus can pull in, pop up, and let kids participate in a parable or two. The design is also a lot of fun with a transparent floor, cool lights, and huge portals for kids to see out, the BiebBus makes kids excited to grab a book, kick back, and explore the written word. The fun design uses a transparent floor to help light the lower section of the library and let adults keep an eye on the youngsters above. ââ¬Å"As a child, I loved to read books. The library was a window to the world, a pathway to worlds and people far from my neighborhood in Philadelphia.â⬠Ed Bradley, Journalist 60 Minutes Swiss Cottage Childrens Library A library card is the start of a lifelong adventure.â⬠à Lilian Jackson Braun Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library in Memphis, TN (Photo by Urbanart73) Every child needs a safe place to fall a place where he or she can explore things without worrying about failure and judgment. A library is one of those places. In a library you can learn by following your own nose, which is very different from someone telling you what you should learn. Once a kid learns a library is hers, to use as she wants, the world opens up., Ive seen it happen. It happened to me.à Bill Harley, Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Camarillo Public Library in Camarillo, CA (Photo by Gbucknor) At the moment that we persuade a child, any child, to cross that threshold, that magic threshold into a library, we change their lives forever, for the better. Its an enormous force for good. Why did the Greeks build temples Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Why did the Greeks build temples - Essay Example Classical temples can be grouped in two categories and these are Ionic and Doric. These styles are known as orders that can be identified in types of column used in temples. Ancient Greek temples were not built for worship or for receiving spiritual comfort. These were basically built for god or goddess who protected the community. Gods controlled the natural calamities and other hazards as well. Gods were capricious at some times and they could harm the community. That is why it was important for everyone to take care of godââ¬â¢s comfort to avoid problems. Their houses were specimen of good construction especially those built during the Dark Age. Gods were keenly looked after. Gods received share in food, harvest, business, trading and military activity. Peripteral, Doric and Ionic orders were the masterpiece constructions in ancient Greek. All the orders differ in type of construction, style and usage of material1. Cult images were mostly used in all the temples to represent go d. These images still speak of the mastery of designers. Statue representation at centre of the temple was either sitting of standing. Initially statues were made of wood but with the passage of time cut stones and different materials were used. Zeus statue was liked worldwide and for some time it remained the part of Seven Wonders of the World2. Another purpose of Greek temples was to house statues of deities. Varieties of statues were placed in a single temple for worshipping and offerings. Specific offerings were a feature of Greek temples in Greece. Offerings might include flowers, jewellery, precious belongings of a person. All the offerings presented by citizens were permanently preserved in the temple. Great construction work reflects the attachment of ancient Greeks with their gods. Temples also served as linkage between sacred and secular in ancient Greece. Altar was the place specified for sacrifices and offerings in a temple. Olympia and Delphi were the places where treas ury was a small building introduced for offerings to god and goddess. The other important parts of the temples which were not part of the religious practice places includes council house, law court, fountain house, separate place for women to fill their vases with water from community fountain. The temples were also linked with open assembly area or market place in the rear3. Normally the part of temple opened for the public was either a cave or line of trees for worship. The sacred enclosure of the temple building was commonly known as Temenos. This place reflected the rural origin of cults. Public was not allowed to move around in the complete temple. Only priests had the privilege of divine presence for showing and performing as representatives of the whole community. Common public was normally not allowed to perform in religious festivals and gatherings. Although they were encouraged to contribute financially as temple was the house of gods. People usually offered lavish sacrifi ces to gods in the shape of livestock and personal belongings4. Different occasions of athletics and dramatic production was a regular feature in ancient Greek. Gods and goddess were presented with rare objects, garments, jewellery and cutlery by the community. Community normally loved to gift statues of young men and women as symbol of deep reverence towards gods. Kore was found in sixth century BC in Athens. Offering of joint prayers with the community normally took place in temple at the end of any gathering or festival5. There is no doubt that temple is the most important building of the Greeks. Statues in temple were placed facing east so that rising sun is first seen from

This would help Kathy to undertake the appropriate medium of communication in order to apply the same according to the need of the situation. The advantages of the oral medium of communication would help Kathy to resolve the issues faced the customers on an immediate basis. A good power of communication would help in resolving the customer complaints immediately (Kaul 15). The grievances could be settled in the front desk on an instant basis to the satisfaction of the customers in the hotel of Las Vegas. Thus effective oral communication would help in consolidating the customer relation for the Las Vegas hotel. The disadvantages of oral communication are that the facial expressions and emotions expressed during the communication process could not be concealed. This could lead to flaring of tempers. Once an oral communication is mishandled, it is very difficult to repair the relationship between the communicators. Thus Kathy should be careful of these disadvantages of oral medium of communication. In cas es where oral medium of communication is not effective, where maintenance of official records are necessary to validate the earlier communication held, the written form of communication would be advantageous and Kathy would need to adopt this form of communication. Moreover, written medium of communication is beneficial when the sender and the receiver of message are not within reachable distance.

Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Essay Example for Free
Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Essay Abstract Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems or also called as HCAHPS is a too and gadget for measuring and evaluating the amount of contentment and satisfaction a hospital has given to a patient. The results of these HCAHPS surveys help all hospitals across the country and the world by providing data about the preferences of patients and the quality of healthcare, operations and activities that they prefer. The information taken from these surveys will be made public, thus providing more information to the people and to the hospitals. Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems presents a standard level of hospital care and operation to all of the hospitals in our country and around the world. à Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, also known as HCAHPS, is a consistent, reliable and dependable survey device. It also has data collection methodology for use in objectively measuring and evaluating each of the patients perspectives of the hospital care and operation they have experienced. As of today, we know that almost all hospitals gather and collect information and data concerning patient satisfaction and contentment. Nowadays, our country has no nationwide or national standard designed for collecting and gathering this information that will facilitate and pave way for valid comparisons and assessments to be made across all hospitals and healthcare centers in our country or any given region. To be able to make matching and equivalent assessments and comparisons to back up consumer and patient preference and inclination, it is always very much essential to bring in and introduce a new, updated and acceptable standardized measurement approach to these matters. The survey is an intensive compilation of grouped questions that can be and should be integrated with modified and customized hospital items and operations. The integration of this assessment plan will pave way for the creation of a great number and high level information database which will complement and help out all the given data hospitals presently bring together and organize. This is done in order to maintain a high quality internal and in-house customer service and serviceability and quality-related activities and operations. There are three extensive and general goals that have molded and shaped the said survey. First of all, the HCAHPS survey is intended and planned to generate and create comparable data on patients perspectives of care. These perspectives permit objective, meaningful and unbiased comparisons between and among hospitals on any given topic, theme and/or subject matter. à à à à These subject matters, topics and themes as we all know is very significant and important to the patient and consumer. Secondly, public reporting of the survey results is always planned out and agreed upon in order to produce incentives and benefits for hospitals that have been surveyed. One of the public reportingââ¬â¢s objectives is to further improve the quality of care that hospitals and healthcare centers give out to their patients. Thirdly, another objective of the public reporting is for it to serve and to develop public and community accountability and responsibility in health care and hospitals. This is done by overly-increasing the amount of transparency with which the quality and amount of hospital care and operations given to a patient or any person is equated in exchange for the public investment. Having all of these different goals, objectives and results in hand, the survey plan took a lot and will take a lot more of extensive, significant and noteworthy ways, .means and differentiated steps to improve, guarantee and assure the surveyââ¬â¢s credibility, reliability, usefulness, practicality and most of all functionality. The main survey device and toll is composed of 27 unique and differentiatied items. There are two items which is aimed to sustain and uphold congressionally-mandated reports and information. There are also 18 substantive items that encompasses critical and vital aspects of the hospital experience are given and laid out for the patient to rate and comment about. Lastly there are four items to skip patients to suitable questions and there are three items to adjust and adapt for the combination of patients across hospitals. The HCAHPS is put under the careful patronage of the Hospital Quality Alliance. This group is a private and public partnership that consists of different major hospital associations. Members of these hospital associations range from private to public companies and people. References Forrester, R. B (1986). People, Healthcare and the Government. à à à à à à à à à à à New Jersey. Got Trees? The New American Youth Counterculture :: essays research papers
Brad turns to his companion Les. He is wearing an oversized t-shirt sporting some trendy pop-culture phrase that has long since lost any reference or significance. He sports jeans that are neither loose nor tight, very functional. Brad is in essence, every man America. Les is a skinny short boy, pale with frizzy blond hair. He too is dressed in a peculiar sort of anti-fashion, a fashion so slyly plain and unrecognizable that it defies the very nature of fashion itself. They are both seventeen. "Yo, whenââ¬â¢s Tim coming back with our trees? I need to blaze before I go home." Engaged in the continuing struggle to find marijuana, Brad is neither distressed nor overly excited, but displays a Taoist sort of calm. Les responds with an ambivalent answer and a request - "What's the best kind of music to listen to while you're high?" In this simple question, Les may anticipate the next wave of marijuana culture. But to understand the cultural currents and nature of th is existential convergence, we must first dive deeper into what has become the most genuine counterculture of modern times. Marijuana was originally viewed as merely another tool for spiritual short cuts and mind expansion. At this point, it was confined to an elite group of self-righteous hipsters who could find no better way to communicate the essence of the drug that outdated modes of artistic expression. However, in post-psychedelic America, marijuana soon took on a new, more democratically inspired significance. Marijuana became a more recreational drug, soon finding its way into the melting pot for subversive trend, teenage America. Marijuana is a mild hallucinogen, but really it's more like a combination of speed and rat poison, only not bad for you. Marijuana makes each moment significant. The now takes on supreme importance. The future and the past become no longer points for idle speculations, but reductions of functionality constrained by the now. It is this post-temporal affect that serves to liberate users from their previous outdated modalities of experience-defined enjoyment. Experience is secondary to the transcending reality of every moment. Cognizant of the fact that meaningful experience is really quite unlikely, these post-hedonists embrace the continuation of their culture as a surrogate for experience; when the now is the all, an experience is created. There is little risk of long term consequence, as they recognize the danger in harder drugs like ecstasy, which is a combina tion of coke and heroin, and LSD, which is essentially pure speed.

A Steady Rain Essay
Itââ¬â¢s your typical cop movie, findable on the local channels. Two police officers claim to use their power for the good of the people, but find out how much easier it is to take matters into their own hands. Although we all can get this on our television for free, director Tazewell Thompson takes Keith Huffââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"A Steady Rainâ⬠and turns it into something worth paying for, or did he? The set is completely simple; as a matter of fact I must say it is very uncreative. There are two seats in the front and several are lined up in the back making two single rows. In the far back and sides of the stage, there are blinds with cracks in it as if people have been peeping through them. No art work, not even a coffee table, just chairs and blinds surrounded the stage. It took a while but it hit me, it is an interrogation room. Now, the only thing I predict coming is be a waste of hard earn money and angry people in the audience asking for a refund. But when the two actors came out and started to talk to the audience as if we were a part of the act, it startled me and caught my attention. Iââ¬â¢m really in for the night of my life and if you were in my shoes, youââ¬â¢ll be to. This is definitely not your typical play; loyalty, friendship, and lives are at stake. Huff wants us to understand that it does not matter how long or how close you are with someone because in a split second they can betray you. This play did not provide a visual for less creative minds like myself. There was so much talking, storytelling, and current conversations, that I found myself lost through a couple of scenes such as the one where the random Vietnam boy shows up then gets eaten by some cannibalism. Good thing for Dennyââ¬â¢s (Aaron Roman Weiner) aggressive voice which always brought my attention back to the play. Whatââ¬â¢s not to love about Denny? He is an alcoholic racist Italian who takes the law into his own hands leaving his kindergarten best friend, Joey (Kyle Fabel), to cover for him. Joey seems like the nice loyal wise guy who you would assume has his life together, but in all it is just an image. Joey apparently has to live under Dennyââ¬â¢s roof because he cannot control his liquor cravings. Denny believes that Joeyââ¬â¢s craving is the reason he has yet to have the most valuable thing in life, a family. Because Denny already has what Joey wants, he uses it against him by constantly reminding him who has what and who needs who which leads Joey to secretly wants to live the ââ¬Å"successfulâ⬠life of Denny. Dennyââ¬â¢s vulgar ways makes him seem like he was the main character and as if the world evolve around him. He takes biblical quotes and twists the words around to support his crazy and in his own opinion, logical ideas. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s every man for himself and fââ¬âk your neighbor as you expect your neighbor to fââ¬âk unto youâ⬠(Huff 48). His harsh words are so striking that it leaves the audience in suspense quietly waiting for his next action. While Denny seems to be the one in charge, Joey on the other hand, stumbles over a couple of words. He tries to figure out what would be the best path for him and Denny. He shows his loyalty to his partner in crime by always sticking around and keeping his mouth shut when it comes to the other police officers. It is not always easy for Joey to cover up for Denny who has a particular attitude. He says that he is a family man and family comes first. However, he goes around sleeping with a prostitute, which in return creates conflict with the pimps, his job, and the safety of his family. Not even Saint Joey could save Denny from this situation because now both of their jobs are at stake. Denny will soon learn that all of his actions have consequences in which he is nowhere near prepared for. Are all his lies and his betrayal of the family he claims to protect worth it? Since Joey is living in Dennyââ¬â¢s shadow, he believes that he is the one who should be taking care of the family. His loyalty for Denny soon dies when he finds the perfect opportunity to have the family heââ¬â¢s been longing for. Joey is now speaking up for himself by telling Connie, Dennyââ¬â¢s wife, all of Dennyââ¬â¢s dirt. Joey even starts making moves on his best friendââ¬â¢s, since kindergarten, wife and is making future plans with his new family. Denny was right, it is every man for themselves. In this play, the two characters have their own unique personalities, but as the play progresses there is a lot of role and power switching that occurs during the rainy setting. In Thomas Fosterââ¬â¢s, Its More Than Just Rain or Snow, he shows the reason for why during the whole play it is raining. Foster says that rain sets the tone and it could mean potential danger is on its way or is already occurring. Throughout the play we can see destruction amongst friendship and when the play ends, the rain ends as if all the trouble has been washed away. Foster says, ââ¬Å"So if you want a character to cleansed, symbolically, let him walk through the rain to get somewhereâ⬠(Foster 77). It is fascinated to see the twist within each character and to observe how each of them develops. By doing this, Keith Huff displays loyalty and friendship, but slams you with betrayal. Huff wants us to take a look at the people who we are closest with because at any given moment they can and there is a great chance that they will betray you. With all the conflicts seen in the play, only one of the brothers will have their happy ending. Itââ¬â¢s a shocking twist that I did not even see coming. Itââ¬â¢s worth the money spent.

An Important Substance For Christians - 1806 Words
Introduction 1 Peter 5: 6-7 is considered an important substance for Christians. Sometimes, believers live their life inside this bubble expecting nothing will reach at them. In fact, when we live a life with Jesus, our life will be protected and taking care of; but sometimes we, as human, allow spirituals doors to open in our life that should not be opened at all. Therefore, when we allow things to happen in our life, the negative result will be presented on our life and our family as well. The walk with Jesus was never explained that it was not going to be an easy task, but by trusting God and allowing God to alleviate that extra weight, Christ reduce his or her unbearable burdens and give us rest, peace and the Holy Spirit as a guide.
